Citation Integrity Research

The development of Citation Integrity must be evidence-led. CiteAbility conducts research designed to better understand how information characteristics relate to AI retrieval, evidence use and generated answers.

Real-World Testing

The framework is tested against real AI assistants and real websites

The Citation Integrity Framework is not developed in the abstract. Before Citation Integrity infrastructure is offered to any AI provider, CiteAbility tests and validates it against real AI assistants and real published websites.

Current testing environments include SynaBot, an AI assistant, and shortly WebAppRocket.ai — both founded by CiteAbility co-founder Mark Barclay.

These are testing environments, not CiteAbility customers. No commercial Citation Integrity product is sold to them, and no certification, score or business outcome is purchased or influenced by this relationship.

We disclose the ownership of these testing environments because methodological integrity means being transparent about where real-world data comes from — including when we generate it ourselves.

As real-world testing produces meaningful findings, they will be published here, held to the same evidence-before-claims standard as every other claim on this site.

Method

Evidence before conclusions

AI systems are complex and continuously changing.

CiteAbility distinguishes carefully between:

  • Correlation
  • Reproducible findings
  • Causation

We do not claim that a change causes a particular AI system to cite or recommend a source unless the available evidence supports that conclusion.

Publication

Proprietary research

Over time CiteAbility intends to publish:

  • Citation Integrity reports

Research results will be published without disclosing proprietary framework mechanics where those mechanics form part of CiteAbility's intellectual property.
