CiteAbility™ (“we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and protect personal information when you visit our website, run an Audit, create an account, use the CiteAbility™ dashboard or contact us. CiteAbility™ is the Citation Integrity™ Layer for AI: we help organisations improve the integrity of the information they publish today while building Citation Integrity™ infrastructure that AI systems can use to better evaluate the evidence behind their answers.
We may collect the information you provide directly, such as your name, organisation, email address and message when you use our contact form or email us. We also collect standard technical data (for example, browser type and IP address) via common analytics and security tools to help us understand and improve the site.
You can choose to connect your own Google Analytics and Google Search Console to CiteAbility™. This is optional.
When you connect, you sign in with Google and give CiteAbility™ read-only access. We cannot change anything in your Google account.
We retrieve and store totals only: visits by traffic source, visits from recognised AI systems, the pages those visits landed on, key events and revenue where you have set them up, and search queries, clicks and impressions. We also store the email address of the Google account you used, the name of the property you chose, and the access keys Google gives us, which are held securely on our servers.
We do not collect information about your individual visitors.
We use this information only to show you your own results in your CiteAbility™ dashboard. We do not sell it, share it with other customers, or use it for advertising. We do not use it to develop or train AI models.
You can disconnect at any time on the Connections page. When you do, we delete the connection, the access keys and the figures we stored. You can also remove CiteAbility's access in your Google account settings.
CiteAbility's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
When you create an account we store your email address and, if you sign in with Google or Microsoft, the name and email address that provider gives us. Passwords are handled by our sign-in service; we do not store your password in readable form. We store the company name and website you give us, the assessments and results for that company, and a record of which signed-in person started each action in the dashboard that uses Credits.
If you run a free Audit without an account, we keep the website address you entered and a coded form of your IP address and browser type, not the address itself, to limit misuse.
If you invite a colleague to your company workspace, we store the email address you enter and send that person an invitation by email. The invitation link works once and expires after 7 days. People in the same company workspace can see each other's names and email addresses. The company owner, or a member who looks after billing, can remove a member at any time.
We send service emails that are part of using CiteAbility™: a welcome email when your account is first set up, invitations you ask us to send, and Monitor alerts where your company has them switched on. You can switch Monitor alert emails off on the Monitor page and manage your email settings in Account settings. We keep a record of the emails we send: the address, the type of email and whether it was delivered. Emails are delivered for us by Resend. We send tips or promotional emails only if you have chosen to receive them, and each one includes a one-click unsubscribe link.
CiteAbility™ uses AI models to assess the public pages of the website you ask us to assess, and to answer questions in the assistant on this site. The page content and your questions are sent to the model provider for that purpose.
CiteAbility™ Outcomes sends the questions you choose, and your company name, to the AI systems it observes (currently Perplexity, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Grok) through each provider's API, and stores the answers and sources they return. Do not put personal or confidential information in an Outcomes question.
CiteAbility™ offers an optional browser extension ("Check it as you browse") that verifies Citation Integrity™ Certified badges on the pages you visit. The extension is designed to work without an account, and its data handling is intentionally limited to the badge verification described below — it is not designed to collect personally identifiable information, browsing history, or page content. When it detects a badge on a page, it sends only that badge's own public verification code — already visible in the badge's link — to our verification API, to confirm the certification is genuine and current. Results are held only in the extension's own short-lived memory and are cleared when you close your browser.
In plain terms, the permissions the extension asks for are limited to what that check needs: it can read the page you are viewing so it can find a Citation Integrity™ Certified badge; it can connect to our verification API to check that badge's public code; and it keeps the result only in its own short-lived memory, cleared when you close your browser. It does not need access to your CiteAbility™ account, and it is not designed to read, store or share anything beyond that single check. The exact technical permissions the extension requests are listed in its store listing.
We use your information to provide your account and the service you asked for, respond to enquiries, improve our website and services, and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell personal information to third parties.
We share information only with vetted service providers who help us operate the website and communicate with you, and when required by law. All providers are contractually bound to keep your information secure. These providers include our hosting and database providers, our sign-in service, our email delivery provider and the AI model providers described above.
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of your personal information. To exercise these rights, contact us at hello@citeability.ai.
